Joel Welty
I am 83 years old. I worked mainly for consumer cooperatives most of my life, with the main focus on housing cooperatives. I have written more than 200 articles for national magazines, largely related to my work. I presently am on the Publications Committee of the National Association of Housing Cooperatives. I have been married to Ellie since 1952 and father of Stephanie since 1956. I have served in public office and also served as a leader in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan. I am a Humanist and everyone in the Fellowship knows this but talks to me anyway. I generally attend the monthly meetings of my county Democratic Party, mostly as a spectator. I do write angry letters to the newspaper, especially when the Republicans stick their heads up. My chief concern is global warming, and I am interested in generating electricity at home with a wind turbine. Ellie and I built an earth-sheltered home five years ago and recommend it for everyone.
